From Fort Knox, Kentucky to the Hungarian National Museum and later to the Building of the Parliament of Hungary.

It has been 40 years since President Jimmy Carter made the courageous decision and returned the Holy Crown to the Hungarian People. The US delegation, led by Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, had arrived to Budapest on January 5 1978 and the Crown was officially handed over the next day. The ceremony had been widely seen as a proof of friendship between the two nations and an encouragement to the Hungarian People to seek a better future.

Recalling the anniversary Jimmy Carter, a Baptist, had sent a letter to the leader of the Hungarian Baptist Aid, in which he expressed his joy to join the anniversary memories of the return of St. Stephens’s Crown. „This was the beginning of improving relations between our countries, and Hungary was then granted the status of the most-favored state from the United States”, the former president wrote in his message.

Today the Holy Crown is the jewel of the Parliament Building in Budapest, it can be observed at the main hall.
